Trump-Linked Firm Reduces Ownership in World Liberty Financial by 20%

A business tied to former U.S. President Donald Trump and his family has scaled back its investment in World Liberty Financial (WLF), a cryptocurrency-focused firm, according to a new report.

Forbes revealed Thursday that DT Marks DeFi LLC — a Trump-affiliated entity — has gradually decreased its ownership in WLF. While it held a 75% share in December 2024, the company’s website listed the stake at “around 60%” in January. That figure reportedly dropped to 40% shortly after June 8.

It’s still unclear whether the Trump family made a profit from the reduction, though Forbes estimates suggest the sale could have brought in millions.

Qries

This development follows increased scrutiny from U.S. lawmakers urging investigations into Trump’s involvement in the crypto sector. Notably, WLF launched its own stablecoin, USD1, back in March, just as Congress advanced the GENIUS Act — a bill focused on regulating payment-based stablecoins.

The GENIUS Act recently cleared the Senate with bipartisan support but could face obstacles in the House due to concerns over Trump’s crypto entanglements. On Wednesday night, Trump publicly called for swift House approval of the legislation.

Concerns Over Potential Conflicts of Interest

Trump’s connections to WLF have raised alarms, especially as he pushes crypto-related policies through executive orders and benefits from a Republican-led Congress.

In May, a company based in Abu Dhabi announced plans to use WLF’s USD1 token for a $2 billion transaction involving Binance. By March, WLF had secured about $550 million through two token sales, and Trump had reported over $57 million in personal income from the venture as of June.
