National Center for Public Policy Research Suggests BTC Treasury Strategy for Amazon

The National Center for Public Policy Research, a free-market think tank based in Washington, D.C., has submitted a proposal to Amazon urging the company to consider incorporating Bitcoin into its corporate treasury. This suggestion is slated for discussion during Amazon’s shareholder meeting in April 2025.

In the proposal, the think tank criticized the Consumer Price Index (CPI) as an inadequate gauge of inflation, suggesting the actual rate of currency debasement could be as much as double the reported 4.95% inflation rate. The group argued that this discrepancy significantly undermines the value of Amazon’s $88 billion in cash reserves and short-term equivalents.

To safeguard shareholder interests, the proposal advocated for Bitcoin as a hedge against inflation. It highlighted Bitcoin’s exceptional performance:

“As of December 6, 2024, Bitcoin’s price surged by 131% over the past year, vastly outperforming corporate bonds, which delivered an average return of just 5%. Over the last five years, Bitcoin has risen by 1,246%, eclipsing corporate bonds by the same margin.”

The letter recommended Amazon allocate at least 5% of its assets to Bitcoin to protect and enhance the value of its financial reserves.

MicroStrategy Inspires Organizations to Adopt BTC Treasury

MicroStrategy and its executive chairman, Michael Saylor, have paved the way for corporate Bitcoin treasury strategies, gaining widespread attention in the financial world.

According to the MicroStrategy Tracker, the company’s Bitcoin holdings are now valued at over $40 billion, yielding an estimated $17 billion in profit.

Other companies have followed suit. In November 2024, Marathon Digital Holdings (MARA) raised $1 billion through a 0% convertible note offering, using the proceeds to acquire 6,474 Bitcoin for its corporate treasury.

Artificial Intelligence company Genius Group also embraced Bitcoin, converting part of its treasury assets into BTC. The firm began its Bitcoin holdings with a purchase of 110 BTC at an average price of approximately $90,932 per coin.

As more organizations turn to Bitcoin to safeguard against economic uncertainties, the National Center for Public Policy Research believes Amazon could benefit from adopting a similar strategy to preserve shareholder value.
