Strategy, led by Michael Saylor and known as the largest publicly traded holder of Bitcoin, made no Bitcoin acquisitions last week, despite increased market movement following the cryptocurrency’s new all-time high in mid-July.
According to a filing submitted Monday to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Strategy’s Bitcoin reserves stayed steady at 607,770 BTC. The company did not make any additional purchases last week, even as Bitcoin prices moved from roughly $118,000 to over $119,000, based on CoinGecko data. This happened in the same week a major early investor reportedly sold around 80,000 BTC.
This marks the second time this month that Strategy has opted out of its regular Bitcoin buying, following another pause during the first week of July.
July Sees Slower Accumulation Pace
July has shown a notable decline in Strategy’s BTC accumulation. The company disclosed two separate Bitcoin purchases this month: 4,225 BTC on July 14 and 6,220 BTC on July 21 — totaling 10,445 BTC. That’s a 39% decrease from the 17,075 BTC acquired in June.
For comparison, Strategy had reported 26,695 BTC bought in May and 25,370 BTC in April. The last time Strategy skipped a weekly buy before July was during the first week of April.
STRC Offering Expansion Coincides With Pause
The recent buying pause coincided with Strategy expanding its Series A perpetual preferred stock (STRC) offering. Initially planned at $500 million, the offering was upsized to $2.521 billion on Friday, with shares priced at $90. The sale is set to close on Tuesday, pending standard closing procedures.
As with previous offerings like the STRK (Series A perpetual strike preferred stock), STRC provides a way for Strategy to raise capital through equity — proceeds that are typically funneled into further Bitcoin purchases.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), co-founder Michael Saylor referred to STRC as one of four key components of Strategy’s “Bitcoin defense department.”
