Polymarket Predicts Len Sassaman as HBO’s Likely Candidate for Satoshi Nakamoto Unveiling

Polymarket, a decentralized prediction platform, is currently showing Len Sassaman, an American computer scientist, as the leading contender to be unveiled as the legendary Satoshi Nakamoto in an upcoming HBO documentary set to air on Oct. 8.

The documentary, titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,” is directed by filmmaker Cullen Hoback. According to recent reports, Hoback and HBO have hinted that the film may finally disclose the true identity of Bitcoin’s elusive creator.

However, neither Hoback nor HBO have explicitly stated that “Money Electric” will definitively confirm the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. Despite this, their social media activity and the trailer for the documentary have strongly suggested that such a revelation is on the horizon.

This mounting anticipation has led to increased activity on Polymarket, where traders are speculating on “Who will HBO doc identify as Satoshi?” The pool, as of Oct. 4 (11:50 PST), has reached a trading volume of $389,738, just days before the documentary’s Oct. 8 release.

Among the leading figures in this speculative market are the familiar names: Hal Finney, Adam Back, Craig Wright, and Nick Szabo. Yet, the frontrunner appears to be a relatively lesser-known figure, Len Sassaman, according to earlier discussions about the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto.

Len Sassaman, who passed away at the age of 31 in Belgium in 2011, was a prominent American computer scientist. His connection to Bitcoin remains somewhat unclear. However, a 2023 Medium post exploring this theory describes Sassaman as a key figure in the Cypherpunk movement. His well-documented work in privacy technologies, his academic background, and his advocacy for open-source principles are all seen as aligning with the philosophy behind Bitcoin.

As it stands, Polymarket’s rules for this prediction market indicate that if Sassaman is confirmed as the primary creator of Bitcoin in the documentary, the market will resolve to “Yes.” But if another individual or group is identified, or if Sassaman is revealed as only partially responsible, the market will settle on “No.”
