The Solana ecosystem is expanding into hardware once again, this time with a portable Web3 gaming device.
Play Solana, a project focused on bringing blockchain gaming into dedicated hardware, confirmed that its first console, the Play Solana Gen 1 (PSG1), will begin shipping on October 6.
The PSG1 is built with gaming-friendly specs, including an octa-core ARM processor, 8GB of RAM, WiFi and Bluetooth support, and a touch-enabled LCD screen. It also integrates crypto-native features such as a hardware wallet and fingerprint security, enabling players to manage digital assets directly from the device.
To support the launch, Play Solana introduced a limited NFT collection of 2,000 tokens, giving holders early access along with exclusive perks within the ecosystem.
Solana’s continued push into physical products
This new release builds on Solana’s earlier ventures into consumer devices. Back in 2022, Solana Mobile (a subsidiary of Solana Labs) launched the Saga smartphone, an Android-based phone tailored for blockchain users.
The Saga included features like a Seed Vault, the Solana Mobile Stack, and a DApp store built specifically for the Solana community. While reception was initially mixed, its eventual release in 2023 turned into a hit, largely due to the BONK memecoin airdrop included with each phone.
Originally priced at $599, Saga devices were later resold on secondary markets like eBay for as much as $5,000.
Solana Mobile later announced a second-generation device in 2024, aiming to position it as more than just a “memecoin phone.” By 2025, demand had surged, with 150,000 pre-orders for the new Seeker phone, expected to generate around $67.5 million in revenue. On August 5, shipments of the Seeker began across more than 50 countries.
Web3 handhelds beyond Solana
Solana isn’t the only blockchain network exploring portable gaming hardware. Competing ecosystem Sui has also entered the space.
In 2024, Mysten Labs, the developer behind Sui, announced the upcoming SuiPlay0X1 handheld console. The device, which integrates natively with the Sui blockchain, is slated for release in the first half of 2025.
