Mark Cuban Aims for Gary Gensler’s Role as SEC Chairman

Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban recently hinted that he’d be open to leading either the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) if Kamala Harris were to win the 2024 presidential election.

Cuban, well-known for his outspoken views on business and cryptocurrencies, recently endorsed Harris in her bid against Donald Trump. His endorsement, he explained, is largely due to her economic policies, which he believes offer a fresh perspective for the future.

During an appearance on Fox News with Neil Cavuto, Cuban was asked whether he would consider a role in a potential Harris administration, such as leading the Treasury or Department of Commerce.

“Head of the SEC. That’s the position I would take. Maybe HHS, but someone needs to replace Gary Gensler,” Cuban stated. He went on to commend Harris for her dedication to advancing cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence. When asked about Gensler, Cuban criticized him, describing his leadership as “terrible, especially for crypto and businesses.”

Though it remains uncertain whether Cuban is genuinely eyeing a position in a future Harris administration or if there have been any formal discussions, his comments certainly raise questions.

Interestingly, Cuban’s comments come amid rumors that Elon Musk may join a potential Trump administration as head of a newly proposed “Department of Government Efficiency,” adding another layer of intrigue to the 2024 election, where billionaires are increasingly becoming tied to the outcome.

Cryptocurrency continues to play an influential role in U.S. politics, and as recently reported, Harris has finally addressed the topic.

The Democratic candidate has pledged support for digital assets and blockchain advancements, though she has yet to fully dive into the specifics of cryptocurrency policy. Meanwhile, her Republican counterpart, Donald Trump, alongside his son Donald Trump Jr., recently launched World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance venture that’s sparked varied reactions across both crypto and political circles.
