Haliey Welch, ‘Hawk Tuah’ Girl, Cleared in SEC Crypto Investigation

Haliey Welch, popularly known as the “Hawk Tuah girl,” has been exonerated following an investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) into her involvement with the cryptocurrency token, $HAWK. The SEC found no evidence of wrongdoing on Welch’s part, concluding its inquiry without levying any charges or penalties against her.

Welch gained widespread attention in mid-2024 due to a viral video, propelling her into internet stardom. Capitalizing on this fame, she ventured into various projects, including launching the $HAWK memecoin on December 4, 2024. The token experienced a meteoric rise, reaching a market capitalization of nearly $500 million, before plummeting by over 90% within hours. This rapid decline led to allegations of a “pump-and-dump” scheme and prompted the SEC to initiate an investigation.

Throughout the investigation, Welch maintained her innocence, asserting that she and her team had not engaged in any insider trading or unethical practices. She emphasized her commitment to transparency and cooperation with legal authorities.

Qries

In a statement released after the SEC’s decision, Welch expressed relief and gratitude, stating, “I take this situation extremely seriously and want to address my fans, the investors who have been affected, and the broader community. I am fully cooperating with and am committed to assisting the legal team representing the individuals impacted, as well as to help uncover the truth, hold the responsible parties accountable, and resolve this matter.”

Welch also announced plans to release a documentary titled “DocTuah,” which will chronicle her journey through viral fame, the cryptocurrency venture, and the subsequent controversy. She aims to provide an in-depth perspective on the challenges and lessons learned during this tumultuous period.

Despite referring to the $HAWK project as the “biggest mistake” of her career, Welch is determined to move forward and rebuild her brand. She continues to engage with her audience through her podcast, “Talk Tuah with Haliey Welch,” and remains active on social media, focusing on creating content that resonates with her followers.

The SEC’s decision clears Welch of any legal liabilities related to the $HAWK token, allowing her to pursue future endeavors without restrictions. This outcome underscores the complexities and risks associated with influencer-led cryptocurrency ventures and highlights the importance of due diligence for both creators and investors in the digital asset space.
