Craig Wright, the man who controversially claimed to be the creator of Bitcoin, has been sentenced to one year in prison for contempt of court. The sentence stems from a $1.2 trillion lawsuit he filed against Block, the company founded by Twitter’s Jack Dorsey.

Wright, an Australian entrepreneur, gained attention in 2016 when he publicly declared himself to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious figure credited with creating Bitcoin. He even asserted that he was responsible for writing the 2008 White Paper that outlined the principles of the cryptocurrency.
However, in a recent court ruling, Wright’s claims were debunked. The London High Court concluded in May that there was no evidence to support his assertion of being the creator of Bitcoin. The court also found that Wright had presented falsified documents to back up his statements.
In response to Wright’s continued litigation, the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) challenged his legal actions. COPA argued that Wright was in violation of a court order that barred him from using his Satoshi claim as the basis for lawsuits. Their legal representative, Jonathan Hough, criticized the lawsuit as an attempt to maintain Wright’s false narrative, calling it a “publicity stunt” to retain the attention of his followers. Following these developments, Wright has now been handed a prison sentence of one year.
