A group of memecoin enthusiasts made headlines in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday after installing a towering golden statue of President Donald Trump holding a Bitcoin outside the U.S. Capitol. The display, part of a Pump.fun livestream campaign, was intended as a tribute to the crypto-friendly president.
The 12-foot (3.6-meter) structure was placed near Union Square on the National Mall, the long stretch leading toward Capitol Hill and less than a mile from the White House.
According to a website promoting the project, the statue symbolizes Trump’s “dedication to pushing forward the future of finance through Bitcoin and decentralized technologies.”
The unveiling happened to coincide with the Federal Reserve’s first interest rate cut of 2025 — a 25-basis-point reduction often seen as a bullish signal for high-risk assets like cryptocurrencies, since it makes borrowing cheaper.
Trump and crypto’s growing ties
Trump has increasingly leaned into his pro-crypto image during his presidential campaign, which led to the sector becoming a major source of funding. Both he and his family have deepened their involvement in digital assets while in office, raising questions from critics about conflicts of interest as his administration eased oversight on the industry.
One of the event’s organizers, Hichem Zaghdoudi, told local media that the statue was meant to spark debate around “the future of government money” and to stand as a symbol of how politics and financial innovation are colliding.
“This is our way of showing gratitude,” Zaghdoudi said in a livestream. “Without the president’s support, we wouldn’t have seen this level of Bitcoin adoption or big institutions coming in.”
Still, some observers note that Bitcoin’s bull run began before Trump returned to office, in late 2023, when the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs during the Biden administration helped open the door for institutional investors.
Foam statue and Pump.fun token tie-in
The statue itself, the organizers revealed, was crafted from high-density foam to make it easier to transport. Social media posts from their account showed the carving process and a group hauling the statue into position.
Alongside the stunt, the team also launched a memecoin on Pump.fun, running several livestreams to promote the token.

They said the statue’s size and bright gold finish were designed to grab attention, with one organizer even joking that he hoped Trump might see it himself — though the president was in the U.K. at the time.
Part of a wider trend of National Mall stunts
The National Mall has become a stage for politically charged art pieces, many of them directed at Trump. Earlier this year, an eight-foot golden hand crushing the Statue of Liberty’s crown appeared in protest of his military parade, while another installation featured a golden TV showing Trump alongside Jeffrey Epstein, criticizing the administration’s handling of the so-called Epstein Files.
This latest creation, however, marks one of the first in clear support of the president — blending politics, crypto culture, and internet meme humor into one headline-grabbing spectacle.
