Richard Teng, the CEO of Binance, revealed that the exchange is actively working with several governments on developing national digital asset strategies, including the creation of Bitcoin reserves.
In a recent interview with the Financial Times dated April 17, Teng shared that Binance has been approached by various sovereign wealth funds and state authorities seeking guidance on how to structure their own crypto holdings and regulatory frameworks.
“We’ve had quite a few discussions with governments and sovereign funds regarding building their own crypto reserves,” Teng stated, without disclosing specific nations. He noted, however, that the United States is “well ahead” in this area.
US Leading the Global Crypto Reserve Trend
Teng attributed the rising interest in crypto reserves from global governments to recent pro-crypto initiatives coming out of the United States. Among these is a proposed national Bitcoin reserve and the accumulation of BTC from forfeitures in federal cases, following an executive order signed earlier this year by Donald Trump.
Though countries like Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have recently announced regulatory collaborations with Binance and its former CEO Changpeng Zhao, none have formally declared plans to establish crypto reserves at this stage.
From Decentralization to a Physical HQ
In a notable shift from its earlier decentralized philosophy, Binance is now re-evaluating its stance on having a formal headquarters. Under Zhao, the company operated with a borderless structure, often referring to physical offices as outdated concepts.
Teng shared that Binance’s leadership is now seriously exploring options for a global HQ, stating, “It’s a major decision, and the board is spending significant time on the assessment. We hope to make an official announcement soon.”
This development comes as more countries implement clearer and more consistent crypto regulations, prompting Binance to align more closely with evolving compliance standards.
