Talk of an incoming altseason is heating up again as indicators tracking altcoin momentum climb to their highest levels of 2025.
Data from both Blockchain Center and CoinGlass show the altseason index hitting 76 out of 100, while CoinMarketCap’s version sits at 67. Despite the slight variation, all three metrics are at their strongest point since last December.
Blockchain Center defines “altseason” as a period when at least 75% of the top 50 cryptocurrencies outperform Bitcoin over a rolling 90-day window.
Historically, altseasons mark phases in bull markets when altcoins generate outsized gains compared to BTC. But the exact timing of this cycle’s run has remained difficult to nail down.
What traders expect next
According to trader Daan Crypto Trades, the combined market capitalization of altcoins is pushing close to its 2021 record.
“Once the overall altcoin market enters price discovery, it could trigger a wave of excitement and bring more participants back into the market,” he noted.
Crypto educator Karan Singh Arora echoed the sentiment, pointing out that “with the altseason index at its strongest in nine months, traders are starting to shift back toward riskier positions.”
Figures from TradingView show the total altcoin market cap — excluding Bitcoin and stablecoins — at $1.63 trillion. That’s just shy of the 2025 high, compared to $1.64 trillion in November 2024 and the $1.7 trillion peak back in late 2021.
Trader Ash Crypto went even further, saying, “Altcoins are on the verge of entering phase 3 of altseason, and things could go parabolic.”
Top altcoin movers today
Among the biggest gainers in the last 24 hours, Dogecoin (DOGE) rose over 5% to reclaim the $0.25 level. Avalanche (AVAX) jumped nearly 11% to $29, marking its highest point since January.
Other strong performers included Hyperliquid (HYPE), Stellar (XLM) at $0.3868, Litecoin (LTC) at $114.49, and Toncoin (TON) at $3.18 — each logging daily gains above 3%.
