Satoshi Nakamoto Statue Vanishes in Lugano, 0.1 BTC Bounty Offered for Clues

A tribute to the elusive founder of Bitcoin has mysteriously disappeared from Parco Ciani in Lugano, Switzerland. The sculpture, which honored Satoshi Nakamoto, was reported stolen, prompting the creators to issue a reward of 0.1 BTC—currently valued at over $11,000—for any tips leading to its recovery.

Satoshigallery, the organization behind the worldwide Satoshi statue project, confirmed the incident and vowed to continue their mission. “Where is Satoshi?” they asked in a post on X, adding: “You can take the statue, but not our determination.” Their initiative aims to place Nakamoto monuments in 21 cities globally.

The artwork, created by Italian artist and Bitcoin advocate Valentina Picozzi, was made of 304 stainless steel and corten steel blocks. It was first presented to the public during the Plan B Forum in October last year, right outside Lugano’s Villa Ciani.

A Symbol of Decentralized Identity

Designed to appear invisible when viewed directly from the front or back, the statue depicts a faceless figure seated at a laptop. This disappearing effect reflects the anonymity of Bitcoin’s creator and the shared identity embedded in the phrase “We are all Satoshi.”

The design process reportedly took a year and a half of conceptual development, followed by three months of physical construction. The statue was unveiled as part of a joint blockchain event hosted by the City of Lugano and Tether.

At the time, Lugano’s mayor, Michele Foletti, emphasized the city’s digital ambitions, saying the statue represented not just Satoshi Nakamoto, but Lugano’s progressive vision in the tech space.

This isn’t the first public monument to honor Nakamoto. In 2021, Budapest unveiled a bronze statue in Graphisoft Park with a reflective face—encouraging viewers to see themselves as part of the Bitcoin story.

Satoshi Among the World’s Wealthiest

As Bitcoin recently hit $120,000, Nakamoto’s theoretical wealth—based on an estimated 1.096 million BTC—surpassed $131 billion, making him the 11th richest person on Earth.

To overtake Elon Musk, currently valued at more than $404 billion, Bitcoin would need to climb to roughly three times its current price. Interestingly, Nakamoto’s wallets remain untouched, adding to the mystery surrounding the digital currency’s anonymous creator.
