Senator Lummis: U.S. Finally Making Moves on Crypto After Landmark Week in Congress

After years of trailing behind global developments in crypto regulation, the United States is showing signs of real momentum, according to Senator Cynthia Lummis.

Breakthrough Moments in Crypto Policy

Last week marked a pivotal moment for crypto legislation in Washington. As Senator Lummis described it, two major milestones defined what many are calling “Crypto Week” on Capitol Hill.

The first was the GENIUS Act—focused on enabling payment stablecoins—which has now been signed into law by President Trump. The second, the CLARITY Act, is moving forward to the Senate for further review.

Qries

Lummis, who has long been involved in drafting crypto market structure legislation, welcomed the progress. “We’ve been working on this for nearly four years—gathering input, revising language, and refining the framework,” she said. “It’s only now hitting the spotlight, but this has been in the works for a long time.”

She also pointed out that the momentum was bipartisan:
“We listened, we adjusted, and made amendments where needed. The result was a strong vote… and we’re committed to keeping this a cross-party effort.”

One key feature of the Senate bill, Lummis explained, is its focus on “ancillary assets”—a concept designed to help regulators distinguish between commodities and securities more effectively.

Expanding Focus: AI and Digital Assets Intersect

In addition to crypto policy, Senator Lummis introduced a new bill targeting artificial intelligence—the RISE Act. Since AI oversight falls under the Commerce Committee’s jurisdiction, Lummis sees a natural overlap between the tech and crypto worlds.

The proposed legislation emphasizes accountability and professional standards in an AI-driven era. “Professionals will still be responsible for the content they rely on, even if it’s AI-generated,” she noted. “We’re making sure the law includes guardrails, including transparency around AI models.”

A Message to the Crypto Community

To those in the crypto space who’ve become disillusioned with U.S. regulation, Lummis had a clear message: don’t give up.
“The U.S. is starting to wake up. President Trump has made it clear he wants to see the United States become the global hub for digital assets,” she said. “We’re on our way. Real, actionable legislation is coming.”
