Japan’s Metaplanet Boosts Bitcoin Holdings to Surpass Tesla

Metaplanet, recognized as Japan’s largest corporate Bitcoin treasury, revealed on Thursday that it has acquired an additional 1,234 BTC, bringing its total Bitcoin holdings to 12,345 coins.

This latest purchase, detailed in a regulatory filing, places Metaplanet ahead of Tesla’s current Bitcoin reserve of 11,509 BTC.

According to BitcoinTreasuries.NET, Metaplanet now ranks as the seventh-largest corporate holder of Bitcoin and is closing in on the 12,502 BTC held by Bitcoin mining company CleanSpark.

The acquisition was made at an average cost of 15.6 million Japanese yen per Bitcoin, roughly equivalent to $108,000. At the time of reporting, Bitcoin’s market price hovered around $108,150, marking a 1.4% increase in the last 24 hours, per CoinMarketCap data.

Ambitious Expansion Plans Underway

Metaplanet has been aggressively ramping up its Bitcoin purchases. Just days ago, the company informed investors that its board had authorized an additional capital injection of up to $5 billion.

While the exact amount raised so far remains undisclosed, Metaplanet stated this funding will “significantly accelerate” the rollout of its ambitious “555 Million Plan.”

This strategy aims to accumulate 201,112 BTC by 2027, representing an investment exceeding $21 billion at current prices. Previously, the firm had set a goal of holding 100,000 Bitcoin by 2026.

Corporate Bitcoin Holdings on the Rise Worldwide

Metaplanet joins an increasing number of companies expanding their Bitcoin reserves. Nakamoto Holdings recently raised $51.5 million to acquire more BTC.

In South Korea, Parataxis Holdings unveiled plans for a new Bitcoin treasury platform. Meanwhile, Norway-based crypto company K33 is targeting a capital raise of at least 85 million Swedish krona ($8.9 million) to purchase up to 1,000 BTC.

Earlier this month, Norwegian crypto exchange Block Exchange announced the establishment of its Bitcoin treasury, resulting in a stock surge of over 138% on the day of the announcement.

Additionally, French tech firm The Blockchain Group expanded its Bitcoin holdings by acquiring 182 BTC for approximately $19.6 million. The company’s total Bitcoin balance now stands at 1,728 coins, according to BitcoinTreasuries.NET.
