Yellen Affirms Financial Capacity: America Can ‘Absolutely’ Afford Funding Another War

In an exclusive interview with Sky News, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has reaffirmed unwavering US support for both Israel and Ukraine, despite the prevailing economic and political uncertainties.

Yellen unequivocally asserted that the United States possesses the capability to manage challenges on multiple fronts, including the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas, and the ongoing support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.

Speaking ahead of a crucial finance meeting in Luxembourg, Yellen pointed out that it is currently too early to comprehensively assess the economic consequences of the recent developments in the Middle East. Nevertheless, she emphasized that the strong fiscal position of the United States ensures its ability to stand by its international allies.

Yellen acknowledged that the volatile oil and gas prices resulting from the ongoing conflict have contributed to the cost of living crisis in Western nations. She urged Republicans to address the leadership vacuum left by the removal of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to enable the prompt approval of vital aid for Ukraine.

“We stand with Israel. America has also conveyed a clear message to Israel: we are working closely with the Israelis, recognizing their right to self-defense,” Yellen remarked. She further highlighted the importance of safeguarding civilian lives and continuing to support Ukraine against Russian aggression.

Yellen’s comments underscore the intricate challenges facing US policymakers. Balancing financial and military support for Ukraine while affirming Israel’s security needs amid heightened tensions in the Middle East will test America’s economic resilience.
