TikTok Takes on Twitter and Threads with Introduction of Text Posts Feature

TikTok, the popular social media giant, has recently made a significant move to challenge Twitter, which has been rebranded as X, as the leading text-based social platform.

In an interesting twist, just 20 days after Meta’s Threads was launched as a competitor to X, TikTok has entered the race by introducing a new feature that allows users to create and share text-based content. The goal of this addition is to provide a creative outlet for TikTokers to showcase their talent through comments and captions.

When users create a new post on TikTok, they are now presented with three options: photo, video, and text. In contrast to Threads and X, TikTok’s text posts offer more customization, enabling users to include location and music, among other features.

TikTok has gone above and beyond to help text-based content stand out with additional features such as stickers, tags and hashtags, background colors, and the ability to save drafts.

While TikTok seeks to set itself apart from its competitors, Threads has faced criticism for seemingly copying Twitter’s interface, which has been in use for over a decade. Interestingly, the resemblance between Threads and X extends beyond just the visual aspect.

Threads recently implemented rate limits to combat spam and crypto bots.

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, explained, “Spam attacks have increased, so we’re implementing tighter rate limits, which may inadvertently restrict active users (false positives). If you find yourself affected by these protections, please let us know.”

In conclusion, TikTok’s move to incorporate text-based content and its efforts to differentiate from its rivals indicate an exciting and competitive landscape in the social media arena. As the battle for supremacy continues, it remains to be seen how users will respond to these new developments on both TikTok and Threads (X).
