Embracing Crypto Payments: X’s Ad Revenue Sharing Paves the Way for the Future

With the recent announcement of X (formerly known as Twitter) introducing its ad revenue-sharing program for eligible creators, the crypto community is buzzing with discussions about the potential adoption of crypto payments on the platform. In response to the announcement, crypto exchange Kraken put forth the idea of accepting payments in Bitcoin (BTC).

The X community reacted positively to Kraken’s suggestion, showing enthusiasm for the possibility of integrating crypto payments on the platform. Some users even expressed their desire for X CEO Elon Musk to consider using Dogecoin for payments. However, others suggested that, for now, it might be more practical to receive payments in fiat currencies like “Web Money.”

X’s ad revenue-sharing initiative marks a significant step in the platform’s commitment to supporting content creators by allowing them to earn a share of the revenue generated from advertisements displayed in response to their content. To be eligible for payouts, creators must have a minimum of 15 million impressions in the last three months, at least 500 followers, and a Blue verification subscription. Payouts will be facilitated through financial technology company Stripe, which also offers a native fiat-to-crypto on-ramp service in the United States.

While Stripe already enabled crypto payouts for Twitter creators in April 2022, there are currently no specific indications or plans from X’s developers regarding the implementation of cryptocurrency-based payments on the platform. However, the availability of Stripe’s on-ramp service could be advantageous if X decides to explore crypto payments in the future.

The potential integration of crypto payments on the social media platform has been a topic of speculation for some time, with rumors suggesting that coins like Dogecoin (DOGE) and Bitcoin (BTC) could be among the initial cryptocurrencies supported by X. Nevertheless, as of now, no official announcements have been made regarding the introduction of crypto payments on X.

As the crypto space continues to evolve, and with platforms like Stripe offering crypto-related services, the possibility of mainstream adoption of crypto payments on social media platforms like X remains an intriguing prospect.
