Aptos Back in Action Following 5-Hour Service Disruption Impacting Transactions

Layer-1 blockchain Aptos Network faced a significant challenge as its operations ground to a halt for five hours, disrupting transactions on its network. The interruption, which began at 11:11 PM UTC on October 18th and persisted for over five hours, affected on-chain transactions on the Move language-based blockchain, ceasing at block 104621314, as reported by the Aptoscan network tracker.

During the outage, the Aptos team acknowledged the impact on network transactions and assured users that they were diligently working to resolve the issue. Consequently, major cryptocurrency exchanges Upbit and OKX informed their users about temporary suspension of APT deposits and withdrawals due to maintenance on the Aptos network.

Prior to the disruption, Aptos Labs had marked a significant milestone, celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Aptos Mainnet’s launch with a birthday message.

Aptos Network, established on October 17, 2022, is a venture capital-backed project developed by former Meta employees who previously contributed to Facebook’s Diem blockchain.

Interestingly, Aptos is not the sole blockchain network to experience downtime recently. On October 19th, the Theta Network team revealed that a node upgrade had caused an unexpected “edge case bug,” resulting in a halt in block production on the main chain for several hours. Fortunately, the issue was promptly addressed, and normal network operations were restored.

In a separate incident, Coinbase’s layer-2 network Base encountered a major outage in September, marking its first significant disruption since its launch the previous month. These occurrences underscore the challenges and complexities inherent in maintaining the stability and continuity of blockchain networks in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
